Free Winter Holiday Activities Give Newport Families Plenty of Options

Families in Newport will have plenty of opportunities to keep children entertained during the winter school holidays, with Moreton Bay offering a wide range of free activities across libraries, museums, galleries and recreation venues.

From target archery and dance programs to visits from alpacas and babydoll lambs, this year’s school holiday program combines active recreation, creative learning and family-friendly experiences designed to suit a range of ages and interests.

The program aims to give families affordable ways to stay engaged during the school break while encouraging children to try new activities and develop new skills.

Archery and outdoor activities lead a packed holiday schedule

The broader program also includes hip hop dance, tennis, junior boxing, multicultural games and survival skills sessions.

The activities are designed to encourage participation, physical activity and confidence while introducing children to experiences they may not have previously explored.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the school holiday program was designed to help young people remain active, connect with family and friends and make the most of their time away from school.

He said the variety of activities available ensured there were options for children with different interests and abilities.

Alpacas and lambs bring a learning experience to libraries

For families interested in animal encounters and hands-on learning, the Winter Woollies program will bring alpacas and babydoll lambs to selected City of Moreton Bay libraries.

The sessions will introduce children to the origins of wool and demonstrate how fleece is transformed into yarn through traditional processes.

Families attending the events will be able to watch carding and spinning demonstrations while learning more about natural fibres and agricultural practices.

The program has been designed to encourage curiosity and provide an educational experience that extends beyond a traditional library visit.

Creative workshops expand holiday choices

The holiday program also includes a variety of creative and educational activities across City of Moreton Bay’s libraries.

Children can participate in beginner 3D printing workshops, improv sessions, magic shows and circus-themed activities.
